Charming holiday cottages, did you know that…
Nowadays many people think that the inhabitants of the Pyrenees are lucky to be surrounded by mountains, rivers, woods, tarns, glaciers… Nevertheless, life in this land is hard and many villages bear testimony. In the past they were bustling and lively but now they seem sad and gloomy after the villagers, with no means to earn a living, had to move away and abandon their villages.
Muro de Bellos is one of the most amazing abandoned villages and at Casas Rurales Pirineo we utterly encourage you to visit it. It has a broad panoramic view of the Pyrenees and an exceptional location that will turn into an unforgettable memory.
We want to pay tribute to this place with our rural apartment. And we hope that our guests will restore life to Muro de Bellos with their stay in some way.
Rural Holiday Flat in Huesca for 4 people.
The Pyrenees of Huesca suffered from a severe depopulation due to the dam construction, such as the one in Gerbe where Casas Rurales Pirineo is located, or due to the lack of means to live. Consequently, many villages became uninhabited. Rural tourism and the rehabilitation of old cottages and “bordas” (stone shacks for shepherds) into rural tourism accommodation have been a big help in the preservation of the villages of Huesca and in the settlement of families at the Pyrenees. However, this transformation towards tourism has not reached Muro de Bellos. This village that was lively once, is now deserted and mostly in ruins as if it wanted to reaffirm the sadness of the villagers that had to leave the Pyrenees behind.
This is a fantastic and sometimes phantasmagorical place that got its name from its exceptional location. It crowns the crest of a hill that defines the course of the river Bellos, which springs at the heart of Ordesa National Park. We would dare to state that this village has one of the best panoramic views of the Pyrenees of Huesca.
From Casas Rurales Pirineo, at the Pyrenees of Huesca, we encourage you to visit this charming village, you will not regret it.
